A moment spent alone doing something I enjoy (:
I am a huge soccer fan! I have a soccer key chain, soccer jerseys, soccer posters and I love watching soccer. I try to find time to play soccer with my friends as frequent as possible because I have to do prefect duties during recess. We all enjoy playing soccer
very much.

To make up my loss of unable to play soccer during recess, I found a very nice soccer computer game. It is FIFA online 2(FO2). I can play alone or with someone else,
either my friend or stranger. It is a really challenging game because in the league
mode, single player, the level of difficulty will increase as you win more games.
Players will grow as you play and you are able to bring a few players with you when
you change team, according to level.

I find the game fun because I do not need to arrange to play with my friends or end up
playing with the computer, at a very easy level. FIFA online 2 is a really fun game,
but extremely addictive. I ended up playing the whole day during the holidays, but at
least I finished my homework. Hehe.

I can spend the whole day playing FIFA online 2, but I will usually get scolded for
that. However, I am getting much busier in secondary 2, so I have not played FIFA
online 2 since the holidays. I am really looking forward to my next gaming session as
I really need to destress.

Something that took place in school

Class BBQ today!! We had lots of fun today. I had band practice in the morning until 2.30 p.m., after which I went to Subway in Parkway Parade to find my friends. We arranged to meet at Subway instead of our school because I was quite sure I will be late, which I was right.
I rushed to Subway straight after band practice because I was already late. All my friends were already there waiting for me, after finishing their meal. I quickly ordered my food and ate it, while chatting with my friends. We left Subway when it was close to 3.30 p.m., as the BBQ is supposed to start at 4 p.m.
We reached school for the BBQ at around 3.50 p.m., being the first few to reach. Early if we knew that, we shouldn't have rushed back school. Since there was nobody around, we went to the field to play soccer, until partial of my class and my form teacher joined us. We spent 40 minutes playing soccer, until the alumni soccer team came because they had already booked the field. The guys reluctantly left the field and headed to the Indoor Sports Hall.
Edmund, Harold, Clemon and I followed my form teacher to his hostel room to bring the items for BBQ to the pit. The BBQ gradually started, when more people slowly stream in. The class took turns to barbeque the food and play sports.
We played soccer, basketball, floorball and tennis. Almost everybody was involved, allowing us to bond, which is the main objective of the event. Everyone sweated a lot and really had fun. After playing, we were all hungry and it was time to get the momentum of barbequing to speed up the process. Everyone played a part in the process and we really enjoyed working together. Our form teacher and class bonded together, and even played with us.
A few of my classmates organised a night walk, for the class to enjoy. Probably due to the lack of planning, it actually failed. It was very sad because I have not get my turn yet. I was busy barbequing for the guys because I assume that they will be hungry after the walk. Instead it did not go well and I cooked too much already.
After sitting around, talking and eating, we cleared up the place as it was getting late. Hand in hand we cleaned up the place in no time. The last segment of the day was eating marshmallows and "campfire". Someone bought a guitar and performed a few songs while we sang along. We also enjoyed the roasted marshmallows.

Something unusual that happened today...

Life is full of surprises and who knows what is going to happen. Most religions believe that God has arranged everything in life. God will control whatever is to happen to us. Some people believe that life is in our own hands. We have the ability to control our destiny. I do not believe anything, I just live my life. Things will happen due to another event, so why bother so much? Preventing things from happening can just get you paranoid. Why torture ourselves?
Today I reached home at 5.15 p.m., after practicing in school. As I was walking along the common corridoor, I can smell a very strong burning smell. I did not bother about it because i thought it was just somebody burning incense paper and stuff. After a while, the strong smell was still present.
I then sense something amiss. I first checked all the household appliances, in case any of them were burn
ing due to any reasons.
After checking around the house and not finding anything burning, I looked out of my house to see if any of my neighbours' unit was on fire. Nope, all checked. I was extremely puzzled because as I was checking, the burning smell was still there.
I paced up and down, knowing that a second delayed can implicate several human lives. It was then that I got really, really worried. I kept looking around, and saw some smoke coming from my kitchen. I rushed there and looked out of the window. The block opposite was on fire! Thick, black smoke emitted from the building and did not look as if it was going to stop. I paniced and quickly called the fire department.
In less than two minutes, I could hear the siren of fire trucks and police cars from afar. The fire was put out in a couple of minute. I am so glad there was no casualties in this incident. Kudos to the swift and brave fire fighters! Thanks to them, lives were saved.
Although I was supposed to do my homework during the incident, but I feel that it was worth it to sacrifice some time. At least no one died...
God created life on earth and taught human everything we needed to survive. We, human beings, being the only living creatures in the universe, is definitely precious. Lives are precious, so are everything else that God gave us, to allow better standard of living. We should not destroy or damage anything, because it is something sacred...

A special moment I enjoyed with my family

Today my family went to my third aunt's house, a usual weekend routine for us. That is where all the cousins and close relatives will meet up and spend time together. We will usually spend the whole day there, having lunch and dinner together.
Possibly due to the fact that it is a new year and a few cousins just became secondary one students, we had a lot to talk about. My family reached my auntie's house at 10 a.m., one of the latest to reach. I was very excited and anxious to meet my cousins because it has been a while since I last met them, due to band practices in school and school work.
I was elated to see my cousins and we could not stop talking the moment we start. My young cousin who was just promoted to secondary one, started off by telling us about his school, friends and stuff.
We totally lost track of time until my mum called us to have our lunch, which we reluctantly did. Everyone finished their lunch in no time, in order to continue on our conversation. After a while, we decided to go out of the house for a walk, or probably a game.
So we were out of the house in no time, but have no idea what to do. In that case, we walked around the estate aimlessly. Somehow, we met a few neighbours in the estate which we used to play with. They suggested us to play frisbee, which we all like to play.
The group of us had so much fun playing that we did not stop until the sun has set. After sun set, we were unable to play, so we went to a void deck near my auntie's house to catch up. We remembered all the foolish stuff we used to do when we were young. As we joked around, time passed quicker than usual.
Soon it was time to return home. We bade farewell and exchanged our contact numbers. I was so reluctant to leace that my mum have to promise that we will be coming again next week, before i agreed to leave.
Time flies especially when we are enjoying ourselves. I am looking forward to the next visit to my auntie's house, even though I just went there today. I really enjoy spend time with my family and relatives every weekend.

Problem encountered and how it was solved or managed.

Today's band practice was a total disaster. My conductor went through three pieces, Disney Princess Medley, First Love~Addicted to you and American Graffiti XVI. I am assigned to play the solo in American Graffiti XVI. When my senior informed me to get ready to play the solo, I was very nervous. My heart was pumping like a train and I can barely pitch the notes.
All my seniors tried to calm me down, help me relax and kept going through the part. It took me quite a while before I was able to play the solo, but I know very well that it was not up to standard. As the piece was practiced after the break, I made full use of the break to practice my solo. I went to consult my conductor for pointers and places to improve.
After the break at 11.25 a.m., the band went through American Graffiti XVI, which I was not really confident about. My conductor gave me a look, trying to give me confidence. I was slightly more confident because of the signal given by my conductor.
My solo is around the middle of the song, where the whole band will reduce in volume so I will produce the most outstanding sound. No good, especially when I have no confidence. As my part came, I was nervous to the state of trembling and fast heart beats.
When the conductor cued me in, I tried my best to play the solo, hoping not to screw up. Better than expected, I only played a few wrong notes. The conductor went on with the piece after the solo.
After band practice, I went to see the conductor to seek help on confidence problem and the solo in general. My conductor kindly assisted me and taught me techniques to prevent errors.
During debriefing, the conductor, band major and student conductor praised me for the good effort and nice melody. I felt awesome when I hear them say that. Having solos are simply great, especially when it is nice and you can play it well.

I am from concert band, playing the tenor saxophone. I enjoy practising alone because I get to have the freedom of practising whatever i want. Practising alone is compulsory for everyone because when the whole band get together to practise as an overall, there is no time of individuals to figure out rhythm, fingerings and volume.

Band needs constant hard work to improve, at least in pace with others. Not touching the instrument for 1 week can make a really significant difference. The "feel" will be gone and naturally unable to play. "Interaction" with quite important because by just think of a low sound, you will be able to produce a lower note. Amazing huh.

I will usually spend 5 to 6 hours a week on individual practises, around 2 to 3 hours per session. It is really fun to practise, feeling committed to the band. Individual practise will start with tuning, ensuring the instrument is in tune; warming up, to produce nice sound and last longer; scales and exercise to warm up too; and lastly pieces.

When doing pieces, i have to sort out the rhythm of important parts like the melody, solo and counter melody. I have to get my fingerings, timings and volume right too. Whenever I encounter problems, I will consult my seniors, but I prefer to try out myself first.

I have a sense of satisfactory when I have practised well and is able to play the pieces. It is a nice feeling being able to play together with the band. I will be practising even harder now because the band will be performing at the Istana on 16 Febuary and I have a solo. Being the first sec 2 without experience to perform a solo, I am naturally excited and nervous.
